Is it allowed or are the temples closed to foreigners during the festival.

Tourists are absolutely warmly welcomed to visit temples on Poya days. In fact it is the most spectacular culturally immersive time to visit. The temples are beautifully decorated completely packed with local families dressed in pure white and the atmosphere is deeply spiritual.

You must ensure you are dressed impeccably respectfully covering your shoulders and knees entirely. Be highly mindful not to disrupt the meditating worshippers with loud talking or intrusive camera flashes. Just observe the peaceful rituals quietly.
