Grade system for Ceylon black tea (bought loose or as tea bags): OP (Orange Pekoe) — long wiry leaves, delicate cup; BOP (Broken Orange Pekoe) — broken leaves, stronger cup; FBOP (Flowery BOP) — includes tips, aromatic; FBOPF (Flowery BOP Fannings) — smaller particles, stronger; Dust — smallest, cheapest, tea-bag grade.

For gifts: buy loose leaf OP or FBOP from established brands (Dilmah, Mlesna, Basilur, Akbar). Elevation matters too: LOW GROWN (bold, malty), MID GROWN (balanced), HIGH GROWN (delicate, floral — Nuwara Eliya, Dimbula, Uva). Best quality-to-price: mid-elevation FBOP from a reputable brand.
