Sunday checkout and the card machine is offline. They want cash for a disputed amount. Any lived tips for protecting ourselves with receipts so we are not paying twice later.

Pay only what you agree, get a stamped receipt with the amount and room number, and photograph it before you leave.

If the dispute is the whole point, do not hand over extra cash just because the machine is down. Ask for a manager note.

Keep chat or email confirmation if they promise a later card capture. Verbal only is how double charges happen.
