Chena (slash-and-burn cultivation) is Sri Lanka's traditional dry-land farming practice — after clearing and burning, families cultivate short crops (chili, corn, sesame, gram). Some homestays in Wanni villages, Anuradhapura area, and dry zone let you experience the whole cycle.

Best via community tourism programs (Sri Lanka Ecotourism Foundation). Not glamorous — hard physical work, weather dependent. Best for anyone deep-curious about traditional agriculture and rural life. Guided visits 3000-6000 LKR per person for full day including village lunch.
