Colombo Chess Club at CR&FC and the National Chess Federation offices host regular casual and rated games. Also Colombo cafe scenes with informal chess (T-Lounge, some bookshops). Bring your own set if wandering; Sri Lankan players readily join.

Weekly tournaments open to foreigners — small entry fee. Some parks (Vihara Maha Devi) have chess-playing regulars in the evening. Elo levels vary from social to strong national masters.
