CMB Arrivals exchange board looks awful — change a tiny wad or wait for a Bank of Ceylon ATM in town?

Just cleared immigration. Airport exchange rates look painful and someone is hovering offering "best rate." Need a tuk/PickMe and water. Should I change a tiny amount of USD at Arrivals, use an ATM here, or ride to Negombo/Colombo and withdraw properly?

Airport cash boards are rarely the best rate. Sensible pattern: withdraw a modest amount from a reputable bank ATM in the arrivals area if your card works, or change a small cash float for the first ride and water, then use town ATMs / a proper bank desk later. Decline roaming "best rate" helpers. Notify your bank for Sri Lanka, watch for surcharges, and prefer machines attached to major banks when you can. Keep a card backup and some small LKR notes — 5000 notes are awkward for tuks. I will not invent today's exact USD/LKR board; compare the ATM receipt to a mid-market rate on your phone once you have data.

Drivers want cash. A tiny airport wad plus PickMe wallet/card where it works beats changing your whole trip budget on the worst board.
