Ubiquitous in humid climates — worry differently than home countries. Prevention: keep food sealed, throw trash regularly, close bathroom drains at night. If found in room: alert owner (they spray occasionally), or upgrade accommodation.

Sri Lankan restaurants often have cockroaches in kitchens (natural to tropical countries) — this doesn't mean food unsafe. Clean floors, sealed food storage, natural ventilation help. Don't panic — cultural context is 'they're everywhere, manage accordingly'.
