Colombo Fort left-luggage hours confused us before the afternoon train — who actually keeps bags?
Morning free in Colombo, train later. Signs and two different answers about left-luggage or cloakroom hours near Fort. One person said closed midday; another pointed at a paid locker-ish desk. We do not need invented fee gospel — just how travelers actually stash backpacks safely for a few hours without missing the train.

Confirm hours in person the morning you need them — cloakroom and unofficial bag desks change, and midday gaps happen. Ask station staff, not the first tout with a smile. Hotel or cafe day-storage where you breakfast is often simpler if they know you. Keep passports and electronics on your body. Photograph any claim ticket. Build a buffer before the train; hunting a closed desk with two packs is how people panic-buy a tuk. I will not invent locker tariffs.
Checked closing time twice, left bags, set a phone alarm an hour before pickup. Desk was real; the sidewalk helper was not.
Hotel held bags after breakfast checkout for a small thank-you. Skipping the mystery desk today.
