Looking at a month-plus Colombo rental. Broker wants half a month as fee on top of deposit. Normal here, or are we getting played as foreigners.

Half-month broker fees show up a lot in Colombo rentals. Still negotiate and get it in writing - common is not the same as mandatory.

Ask what the fee covers and whether it is refundable if the landlord flakes. Compare two brokers before you wire anything.

If the place is good and the contract is clear, half-month is within the local range. Walk if they refuse a proper receipt.
