Growing scene. Reef Watch Sri Lanka (Trincomalee-based, coral nursery and out-planting programs) and Blue Resources Trust do genuine coral restoration research and volunteering. Also small operations in Passikudah and Hikkaduwa reef zones.

Volunteers need: PADI Open Water minimum, ideally Advanced or divemaster, and 2-4 week commitment. Cost 500-1200 USD covers accommodation + food + boat costs. Real work: monitoring transects, tending coral fragments in nurseries, out-planting to degraded reefs.
