Cricket match day near our Colombo hotel — expect street noise all evening or just slow traffic?
Hotel is a few blocks from a big match venue. Booking reviews mention horns and crowds when there is a game. We land the same afternoon. Earplugs packed. Is match day mostly traffic crawl and cheering, or should we ask for a quieter courtyard room / plan dinner elsewhere?

Match days mean thicker traffic, vendor noise, and bursts of cheering depending on how close you are to the grounds and the exit roads. It is usually lively rather than dangerous for hotel guests — still ask reception on arrival for a courtyard or higher-floor room away from the main road if you are noise-sensitive. Earplugs and a white-noise app help. Plan PickMe with extra time; walking routes can be packed right after the final. Dinner a few streets away from the stadium flow is calmer. I will not invent curfew rules — follow what staff say that day.
Asked for a quieter side on check-in. Horns still happened; sleep still happened. Extra buffer for the airport run next morning.
Reception already offered a courtyard room after I mentioned the fixture. Feeling less dramatic about it.
