Solo, camera, trying not to be the rude one. Dahawal Perahera is listed 2:18 PM on Friday 28 Aug. Festival ends after that. Elder prefers daylight, we prefer drums at night.

Poncho, not umbrella. Umbrella on Ampitiya Road edge during Dahawal Perahera is how you start a fight. If showers look likely, a later Kumbal is not automatically cancelled — they run wet. Dahawal is the day procession at 2:18 PM, not a night replay. Kinder for kids and elders, harsher sun. No Saturday Kandy restart after it. Kids change the trade.

We took the Colombo-Kandy morning reserved train, dumped bags, and were on Ampitiya Road edge by four. Unreserved in Perahera week is a maybe. Sit. An elder changes the trade.

One night only: I would still pick a Randoli over a Kumbal if you can stand crowds, and a mid-Kumbal if you cannot. Dahawal Perahera at 2:18 PM from Ampitiya Road edge is a real night either way. Water in the bag beats a maybe stall.
