Poncho, not umbrella. Umbrella on Malwatta Viharaya wall during Dahawal Perahera is how you start a fight. If showers look likely, a later Kumbal is not automatically cancelled — they run wet. Dahawal is the day procession at 2:18 PM, not a night replay. Kinder for kids and elders, harsher sun. No Saturday Kandy restart after it. Water in the bag beats a maybe stall.
We took the Colombo-Kandy morning reserved train, dumped bags, and were on Malwatta Viharaya wall by four. Unreserved in Perahera week is a maybe. Sit. Then tea, then the room.
One night only: I would still pick a Randoli over a Kumbal if you can stand crowds, and a mid-Kumbal if you cannot. Dahawal Perahera at 2:18 PM from Malwatta Viharaya wall is a real night either way. One pin, not three maybes.
