Kids are done by nine on a normal night. Dahawal Perahera is listed 2:18 PM on Friday 28 Aug. Festival ends after that. Leave for the south Friday morning and miss it. Please pick the kinder version, even if it is less 'the real one'.

Poncho, not umbrella. Umbrella on Bogambara-side approach during Dahawal Perahera is how you start a fight. If showers look likely, a later Kumbal is not automatically cancelled — they run wet. Dahawal is the day procession at 2:18 PM, not a night replay. Kinder for kids and elders, harsher sun. No Saturday Kandy restart after it. Bags change the trade — dump them.

We took the Colombo-Kandy morning reserved train, dumped bags, and were on Bogambara-side approach by four. Unreserved in Perahera week is a maybe. Sit. Call the desk before you guess a late checkout.

One night only: I would still pick a Randoli over a Kumbal if you can stand crowds, and a mid-Kumbal if you cannot. Dahawal Perahera at 2:18 PM from Bogambara-side approach is a real night either way. Meeting pin in writing, not a WhatsApp voice note you cannot hear.
