Not trying to turn Kandy into a drama. Dahawal Perahera is listed 2:18 PM on Friday 28 Aug. Festival ends after that. Skip if we did Thursday Grand Randoli. Just need the ordinary move from someone who did this night, not 2019.

Poncho, not umbrella. Umbrella on Bogambara-side approach during Dahawal Perahera is how you start a fight. If showers look likely, a later Kumbal is not automatically cancelled — they run wet. Dahawal is the day procession at 2:18 PM, not a night replay. Kinder for kids and elders, harsher sun. No Saturday Kandy restart after it. Meeting pin in writing, not a WhatsApp voice note you cannot hear.
We took the Colombo-Kandy morning reserved train, dumped bags, and were on Bogambara-side approach by four. Unreserved in Perahera week is a maybe. Sit. First light is for the temple; night is for the street.
One night only: I would still pick a Randoli over a Kumbal if you can stand crowds, and a mid-Kumbal if you cannot. Dahawal Perahera at 2:18 PM from Bogambara-side approach is a real night either way. Shoes you can stand in, not the pretty pair.
