Early warning: dark yellow or infrequent urine (should be pale yellow), fatigue disproportionate to activity, headache, muscle cramps, dry mouth, decreased skin elasticity. Later: dizziness, confusion, rapid pulse. In tropical heat, adults need 3-5 liters of fluid daily — more with activity.

Prevention: sip water constantly, add electrolyte tablets to one bottle daily (Rehydron, Powerade), eat fresh fruits (watermelon, papaya), avoid excessive coffee/alcohol which dehydrate. Kids and elderly are higher risk — monitor them closely. Rehydration salts ORS at any pharmacy 20-50 LKR per sachet.
