Local repellents are actually fantastic and highly effective. The most popular local brand is Soffel which utilizes deeply concentrated citronella and lemongrass oils. It works brilliantly and smells wonderfully natural compared to harsh chemicals.

If you are venturing deep into the humid jungle for a multi day trek bringing a highly potent DEET based spray from your home country provides maximum absolute protection but for standard beach and cultural tours the local natural brands are entirely sufficient.

You can easily buy excellent local sprays and reliable mosquito burning coils at literally any Cargills supermarket or tiny village pharmacy across the entire island.
