SriLankan Airlines does offer a fantastic service called Neighbour Free Seats, but it is not free. You can pay a specific fee to reserve the empty seat next to you for extra comfort on long haul flights.

This service is subject to availability and the overall flight capacity. You can usually request it through the Manage My Booking section on their official website a few days before departure.

If the flight is fully booked, they will obviously deny the request and refund the fee, but it is an incredibly cheap way to get business class style space in economy.
