Sri Lanka Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) requires drone registration + operational permit for commercial or larger drone use. Application process: online through caa.lk, provide drone details, purpose statement, insurance, operator ID. Fee ~USD 100 for tourist commercial use. Turnaround 5-15 working days.

For personal recreational drones (sub-250g, no commercial use), regulations are lighter but still watch prohibited zones (airports, military, wildlife, some heritage sites). Apply BEFORE bringing drone into Sri Lanka. Airport customs may inspect and confiscate unregistered drones.
