Elder on a damp packed curb as the crowd locked in at start. How to keep footing steady. Not cane tips on the approach walk, and not soft knee cushions packed earlier.

Plant both feet on the flattest stone, one adult each side, and shift weight between sections — do not rock with the crowd surge.

If the curb feels slick, take one careful step back onto rougher pavement rather than leaning into the street.
