Little Adam’s Peak (Sri Pada / elevation 1,141m) is Ella’s most accessible and popular sunrise hiking destination. Starting from the Passara road trailhead, the walk takes 35 to 45 minutes each way (approx. 1.5km). The trail begins gently through manicured terraced tea estates, ascending via well-graded stone steps and earthen switchbacks to reach the lower saddle. From there, a final series of ridge stairs leads to three consecutive granite viewing platforms overlooking the deep Ella Gap, Ravana Falls, and the sheer cliff face of Ella Rock.
Start the hike by 5:15 AM to reach the summit ridge before sunrise; morning clouds often clear to offer stunning vistas toward the southern plains.
The trailhead is adjacent to the Flying Ravana Adventure Park, allowing visitors to combine the morning hike with the mega zipline ride.
Plucker paths cross the lower tea slopes; greet local estate workers respectfully and avoid stepping on plucking bushes.
