Ella Rock is 6-8 km round trip, 3-4 hours, moderate difficulty (500m elevation gain). Trail starts by following railway tracks (walk the tracks about 3km toward Bandarawela), then a jungle path up. Marked poorly - some sections confusing, locals sometimes 'help' then ask for tip. Fit hikers can DIY with maps.me or AllTrails downloaded, starting by 6-7am. Guide (1500-2500 LKR) removes navigation stress. Views at top: valley, tea plantations, distant sea on clear days.

For first timers or if you get lost easily: hire a guide from your guesthouse. For confident hikers with GPS: DIY is fine. Wear proper shoes - trail is dusty and rocky. Bring 2L water.
