Experiencing smaller local religious observances or poya day activities respectfully?
I want to experience authentic local religious life, not big tourist events. Any guidance?

Every full moon (Poya) and many other days have temple activities that are part of normal local life. Smaller temples and local events are usually more intimate than the famous big festivals. Dress modestly, remove shoes, be quiet and respectful, and follow what others do. Photography during active worship is often inappropriate. Many locals are happy to explain basic customs if asked respectfully. These smaller observances can be deeply meaningful cultural experiences when approached with genuine respect rather than as a checklist item.
The smaller, everyday religious activities are often more authentic and less performed than the big famous events.
