Both exist. Spice garden 'demos' = tourist show, 5 minutes, buy overpriced spices at end. Authentic cinnamon peeling = a working plantation in the south coast (Matara, Ambalangoda area) where family workshops peel commercially. Different tour operators arrange visits ($20-50 half day, actually watch peeling, buy quills at commercial-farm prices which are 40-60% cheaper than tourist shops). Ask for 'small cinnamon plantation visit', not 'spice garden'.
^ this. Also Silva's Cinnamon Estate near Matara does genuine plantation tours. Not showy. Family-run. You'll watch skilled peelers do in 30 seconds what looks impossible. Then eat traditional lunch. Cinnamon quills you buy there are genuinely fresh and cheap.
