First time on a board, A-Bay around 20 August - am I going to eat it?

Never stood on a board. Keep reading July/August is "peak, 4-8 ft, advanced". Should I have gone in May? Hostels still have beds. Also is Main Point even a beginner spot??

Season is May-Oct because the SW monsoon throws clean swell at the east. July-August is the most consistent and the most crowded. Main Point is a long right for intermediates and up. Beginners get taken to Baby Point, Whiskey, Peanut Farm type peaks depending on the day. We do not throw first-timers into Main Point. No problem, just say first time.

Booked a 2-hour lesson, instructor tuk-tuk'd us to a smaller peak. Stood up day one. Water is warm. Afternoons get windy in August.

Lessons I saw quoted around LKR 3,000-4,000 for about 2 hours with a board. Confirm on the sand, August sits at the high end. Not an official tariff.
