Yes, feet are the LOWEST body part culturally, and pointing them at someone (or Buddha) is deeply disrespectful. Common foreigner mistake: sitting cross-legged with soles facing another person, or laying down feet-toward a Buddha statue for a photo.

Practical: at temples, when seated, tuck feet UNDER you (mermaid pose) or extend to your side, never soles-toward the sanctum. At meals/gatherings, sit with feet under you. If forced by seating, cross legs so soles face down/away.
