Sunday 30 Aug, Fort room, leftover rain on the cobbles from last night. Partner wants the lighthouse stretch before breakfast. I do not want a sprain on wet laterite. Ordinary bags, one pair of sandals. Esala is over. This is just Galle.

Wait. Rampart stones stay slick until late morning after a proper night rain. Sandals on that stretch is how you meet the clinic in town. Walk Church Street in the shade, do the wall when it is dull and dry. Nobody is closing the Fort. It is just wet.

We waited until eleven, walked the inside lane. Fine. Flip-flops were a mistake at eight.

Kids: skip the wall until it dries. Pride hurries a sunrise photo and hops home on one foot.

Lighthouse side gets the wind. If you must walk, closed shoes and the inner path, not the spray edge.
