First Esala, two adults, one small backpack. Diya Kapeema is listed 1:28 AM on Friday 28 Aug after Final Randoli. Do we bring the same street clothes as Final. I cannot tell if this is ordinary festival chaos or we are about to pick the stupid option.

Toilets: hotel or a paid cafe. Do not count on a public one near Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe Mawatha once Diya Kapeema fills. ATM in the morning, not at 5pm on a Randoli day. Diya is a water-cutting ritual at 1:28 AM, not a second Grand Randoli. If you need sleep, skip it and do Dahawal at 2:18 PM. Do not invent a tourist ticket for it. Kids change the trade.

We left when the tusker had passed twice in our direction and the crowd started walking with it. Final Randoli from Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe Mawatha was enough. Chasing the return to Maligawa is how you lose the kid. Call the desk before you guess a late checkout.

We stayed for Diya Kapeema at 1:28 AM after Final and it was a different event — water cutting, not a second Grand Randoli. If you need sleep, skip Diya and do Dahawal. Shoes you can stand in, not the pretty pair.
