Friday 28 Aug 1:28 AM water cutting: listed 1:28 AM — be there at 1 or at midnight?
Solo, camera, trying not to be the rude one. Diya Kapeema is listed 1:28 AM on Friday 28 Aug after Final Randoli. Listed 1:28 AM — be there at 1 or at midnight.

Poncho, not umbrella. Umbrella on reserved chair row by the lake during Diya Kapeema is how you start a fight. If showers look likely, a later Kumbal is not automatically cancelled — they run wet. Diya is a water-cutting ritual at 1:28 AM, not a second Grand Randoli. If you need sleep, skip it and do Dahawal at 2:18 PM. Do not invent a tourist ticket for it. Kids change the trade.
We took the Colombo-Kandy morning reserved train, dumped bags, and were on reserved chair row by the lake by four. Unreserved in Perahera week is a maybe. Sit. Call the desk before you guess a late checkout.
One night only: I would still pick a Randoli over a Kumbal if you can stand crowds, and a mid-Kumbal if you cannot. Diya Kapeema at 1:28 AM from reserved chair row by the lake is a real night either way. Shoes you can stand in, not the pretty pair.
