Friends want to party. Colombo actual nightlife or focus Hikkaduwa/Mirissa?

Both, but weight coastal. Colombo nightlife exists (Amore, ON14 rooftop, Sky Lounge) but has curfews (last call 1am legally, some go later). Vibe is dressy, mixed local/expat crowd, cocktail forward. Beaches are where the actual party culture lives: (1) Mirissa is the classic beach party town - Coconut Tree Hill, beach bars, decent nightclubs, moderate. (2) Hikkaduwa is more chill/reggae. (3) Arugam Bay is surfer party (May-Sept only). For 5 guys wanting big beach party: Mirissa. Colombo 1-2 nights, Mirissa 4-5.
^ Mirissa is the answer. Also mention: not all beach bars have amplified music - noise ordinances vary. Some 'nightclubs' close 12am. Full moon parties happen but are moderate compared to Thailand. If you're expecting Ibiza, adjust expectations. It's beach-party-vibe, not rave-scene.
