Gal Oya National Park (east-central Sri Lanka) is the ONLY Sri Lankan park where you can do BOAT SAFARIS on Senanayake Samudraya reservoir — see elephants swimming between islands (a rare sight), birds, crocodiles. Also traditional jeep safaris in surrounding forest.

Boat safaris 2-3 hours, ~USD 30-50 per person. Best months March-July when water levels are lower and elephants cross frequently. Access via Ampara side — remote but accessible with a full-day drive from Nuwara Eliya or Ella (5 hours).
