Galle Fort cobbles still slick after leftover drip — walk the rampart in sandals this morning or wait until the stones dull — last night of a south-and-hill week

20 Aug, Fort room, leftover rain on the cobbles. Partner wants the lighthouse stretch before breakfast. I do not want a sprain on wet laterite. One pair of sandals, ordinary bags.

Wait. Rampart stones stay slick until late morning after a proper night rain. Sandals on that stretch is how you meet the clinic in town. Walk Church Street in the shade, do the wall when it is dull and dry. Nobody is closing the Fort. It is just wet. Closed shoes if you must walk now.

We waited until eleven, walked the inside lane. Fine. Flip-flops were a mistake at eight.

Kids: skip the wall until it dries. Pride hurries a sunrise photo and hops home on one foot.
