The Dutch Reformed Church (Groote Kerk) in Galle Fort, completed in 1755, is the oldest Protestant church building in continuous use in Sri Lanka. Designed in a simple rectangular architectural plan with thick coral-rag masonry walls and high arched louvered windows, its interior floor is uniquely paved with carved granite gravestones transferred from old Dutch garrison cemeteries. The church houses a historic 19th-century pipe organ and a carved calamander wood pulpit overlooking whitewashed walls.
Gravestone inscriptions record the names, coats of arms, and death dates of 18th-century Dutch East India Company merchants, commanders, and their children.
Located on Church Street near the National Maritime Museum, the church welcomes visitors during daytime hours for self-guided architectural tours.
