Getting bitten by stray dogs on the beach and rabies health concerns

Most beach dogs are friendly and vaccinated by NGOs (look for a clipped ear), but night packs can be aggressive. If you are bitten or scratched, wash the wound vigorously with soap and water for 15 minutes immediately. Sri Lanka takes rabies very seriously. Every major government hospital in the country stocks the rabies post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) vaccine, and it is free, even for tourists.
