I like to learn about a place before visiting. Any recommendations for engaging non-fiction or podcasts?

Good books: 'The Cage' by Gordon Weiss (recent history), 'Running in the Family' by Michael Ondaatje (memoir), 'Sri Lanka: The Cookbook' for food culture, and travelogues like 'A Time of Terror' or more recent accounts. Podcasts: episodes on 'The Economist' or 'BBC World Service' about current affairs, and travel podcasts that have covered Sri Lanka recently. Also follow some Sri Lankan writers and journalists on social media for current perspectives.

I listened to a few episodes about the economic recovery and tourism rebound. Helped set expectations. Also read 'The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida' (fiction but gives cultural insight).
