I don't have fancy equipment. Any places with dark skies that are easy to reach for casual stargazing?

Away from towns and cities, especially on the east coast, north, or high areas in the hill country on clear nights. Some guesthouses in rural areas have good dark sky views from their gardens. Avoid full moon periods. Even basic binoculars help a lot. Many 'dark sky' spots aren't officially designated but just naturally dark rural areas. Ask locals for the best nearby spots away from street lights. Safety is important at night — go with others or stay on guesthouse property.

We had great views from our guesthouse garden in a small village near Ella on a new moon night. No special equipment needed, just clear skies.
