Habarana is a strong Cultural Triangle base — closer to Minneriya and Kaudulla national parks (elephant gatherings) than Sigiriya, cheaper accommodation, and central for day trips to Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa, Dambulla and Anuradhapura all within 45-90 min drive. Fewer tourists and less commercialized than Sigiriya village.

Base of the famous Minneriya 'Gathering' Aug-Oct — hundreds of elephants at receding tanks. Cinnamon Lodge and Chaaya Village are legit stays here. Downside: less nightlife and fewer food options than Sigiriya.
