Besides the famous Kuttam Pokuna twin ponds, you absolutely must find the Elephant Pond, or Eth Pokuna. It is a massive, incredibly impressive ancient bathing pool located near the Abhayagiri Stupa, vastly larger than an Olympic swimming pool.

These hidden pools are rarely visited by the massive tour groups, allowing you to peacefully admire the brilliant medieval engineering and hydrology in total silence.

Another fantastic, highly secluded spot is the Ranmasu Uyana, the ancient royal pleasure gardens. It features beautiful, carved rock pools and ingenious ancient water cooling systems that are fascinating to explore.
