The Weherahena Temple is magnificent and often missed by tourists. It is famous for its colossal Buddha statue and a fascinating underground shrine completely covered in thousands of colorful murals depicting Buddhist stories.

Another extremely beautiful spot is the Paravi Duwa temple. It sits on a tiny island just off Matara beach accessible by an ocean bridge. It is very peaceful and the coastal views from the shrine are spectacular at sunset.
