We leave the hill country after Perahera and keep hearing the scenic train still starts at Ambewela, not Kandy. Still true this week.

Yes, the Kandy end of that scenic stretch has been out since the cyclone damage; travelers board from Ambewela toward Ella and Badulla.

Budget a road hop to Ambewela and book the reserved seats you can actually board; do not count on a Kandy platform miracle this week.

Friends left two days ago and still had to van up to Ambewela; the Kandy ticket window sent them there, so plan the road hop as part of the day.
