Homestay dog sleeps on the guest bed and my allergies are flaring — ask them to keep it out or change rooms?
Sweet dog, terrible for me. Night one I woke stuffed and itchy. Host treats the dog like family, which I respect, but the listing never said pet-in-room. Do I ask them to keep the dog out of this room, request a different room, or just suck it up with antihistamines for four nights?

Say it early and kindly: you like the dog, but you cannot sleep with pet dander on the bed. Most hosts would rather move you or keep the dog out than have a guest suffer silently and leave a surprise review. Ask for a pet-free room if they have one, or a firm closed-door rule for your stay. Antihistamines help some people; they do not fix a dog sleeping on your pillow. Listing silence about pets is a fair reason to ask. Be specific about what you need tonight.
Asked for a different room after night one. Host moved us, dog stayed in the family wing. Sleep returned.
Messaging the host now — allergic, need the dog out of this room or another bed. Hope they take it well.
Hosts prefer a clear allergy ask over a guest who sneezes through checkout and then complains online.
