Baker’s Falls is a majestic 20-meter waterfall located along the Belihul Oya stream within Horton Plains National Park. Named after British explorer Samuel Baker, the waterfall plunges over stepped granite-gneiss rock tiers surrounded by dense cloud forest. The gorge is flanked by blooming pink Wild Rhododendrons (Rhododendron arboreum zeylanicum) and endemic tree ferns (Cyathea). A steep wooden viewing platform accessed via 150 stone steps allows visitors to look directly into the roaring white-water plunge pool.
The staircase descending to the falls is wet with perpetual mist; hold onto handrails and wear shoes with deep rubber lug soles.
Swimming in the waterfall pool is strictly prohibited due to freezing mountain water temperatures and dangerous undertows.
The waterfall stop is positioned roughly 2.5 kilometers before the end of the 9.5km circular Horton Plains hiking trail.
