Chimonobambusa densifolia is an endemic dwarf bamboo forming dense, impenetrable stands across waterlogged patana stream margins in Horton Plains (above 2,000m). It is monocarpic, undergoing gregarious synchronous flowering once every 12 to 15 years, followed by complete stand senescence and dieback. The simultaneous seed drop releases millions of high-protein caryopsis seeds onto the wet peat, triggering a temporary population boom among endemic montane rodents (Rattus montanus and Mus fernandoni) and attracting predators like the highland Leopard and Black Eagle before new bamboo seedlings sprout.
