Horton Plains National Park (2,100m elevation) is a protected montane grassland plateau famous for the dramatic 880-meter sheer drop at World's End. To experience clear valley panoramas across the southern plains before monsoonal cloud cover rolls in, hikers must enter the park gates by 6:00 AM and complete the 9.5km circular trail counter-clockwise toward Little World's End and Great World's End by 8:30 AM. After 10:00 AM, dense white fog consistently obscures the horizon.
The trail continues past Baker's Falls, where cascading mountain water drops over rocky ledges surrounded by blooming wild rhododendrons and tree ferns.
Single-use plastics are strictly banned at park entry checkpoints; rangers inspect backpacks and confiscate bottled water containers.
Pack warm layers; early morning temperatures on the open patana grasslands frequently drop below 10°C.
