Hostel lockers are all full — leave the big pack in an unlocked dorm while we day-trip?
Ella hostel, six-bed dorm, every locker tagged. We want a waterfall day-trip and the reception said rooms are safe enough. Passport and cards are on us. The pack still has a camera, a laptop sleeve, and clothes. Is leaving it on the bunk with a cable lock through the zipper normal, or do people pay for luggage storage / switch hostels when lockers are gone?

Do not leave a laptop and camera on an unlocked bunk because someone smiled at check-in. Ask reception for a paid luggage room, a staff-held tag, or a spare office cupboard — most busy hostels have something even when the metal lockers are full. A cable lock through the zipper is better than nothing but it is theater against a determined grab. I will not invent a standard locker fee. If they refuse any storage and shrug, that is a signal to keep valuables on you or change beds/hostels, not to trust the vibe.
Cable lock slowed nobody. Side pocket emptied. Now I pay for the luggage cage even when it feels silly.
Asking for the luggage room. Laptop comes with us in the daypack either way.
