Hotel iron burned a hole in my only decent shirt — ask the desk for a make-good or buy a replacement in town?
Borrowed the iron from housekeeping. It ran hotter than the dial suggested and left a coin-sized melt on my only collared shirt. Desk apologized. I still need something presentable for a dinner. Do travelers push for a written credit or replacement, or is buying a plain shirt in town the calmer path when the iron was free to use?

Tell the desk what happened, show the shirt, and ask what they can do — often a laundry credit, a partial folio adjust, or help finding a tailor or shop. Keep the tone factual; free guest irons still carry a risk if the thermostat is tired. Test on a towel hem next time. I will not invent a fixed compensation amount as gospel. If you need a shirt tonight, buy a simple replacement in town while the note is written. Calm beats a lobby argument over a melted collar.
