Hotel key card keeps demagnetizing — phone pocket to blame or ask for a spare every night?
Beach hotel, magnetic stripe key. It dies every afternoon after I carry it with my phone. Desk reprograms it with a smile, then it fails again by dinner. Partner says leave the phone in the bag. I am tired of the walk of shame to reception. Do travelers treat this as a phone-magnet problem and ask for a second card, or is there something else hotels expect guests to do?

Most demagnetized guest cards we see lived next to a phone, a mag-wallet, or another key. Ask for a spare on day one and keep one card alone in a shirt pocket or the room folder — not stacked on the phone. We reprogram for free; we cannot invent a secret fee for a working key. If it still dies after you separate the phone, the stripe may be worn and we cut a new one. Tell the desk once that you want two working cards. The walk of shame usually ends when the phone stops sharing a pocket.
Phone and stripe card in one pocket killed mine twice a day until I split them. Spare card in the bag liner fixed the evenings.
Asked for a spare on night one. Kept phone in daypack. Never queued at reception again.
Asking for two cards tonight and parking the phone away from the stripe. Hope that sticks.
Shirt pocket alone for the key. Phone in the other. Boring solution, quiet nights.
