Hotel only said tax was not included when we reached the checkout bill — push back or just pay?

Booking total looked clear online. At checkout the desk added tax and said it was never included. No long speech on arrival. Different from a tip line on a restaurant bill. Do people calmly ask for the rate breakdown and manager, or is arguing over tax a lost cause once bags are in the tuk?

Ask politely for a printed breakdown and compare it to your booking confirmation. If the listing or email said taxes included, show that and request a correction; if it said excluding tax, the add-on may be legitimate even if the surprise timing feels rude. Stay calm, bags can wait five minutes. Card slips are harder to unwind after you leave. I will not invent a standard tax percentage — boards and your confirmation beat forum guesses.

I screenshot rate emails at check-in now. One tax surprise shrank after I showed the include-tax line.

Asked for the manager and the booking PDF. Partial adjustment. Leaving a factual review.

Soft voice plus paper beats a lobby scene. Same energy as tip clarity — separate the issues.
