Many beach hotels advertise Ayurveda massage but I want a real traditional treatment. What signs should I look for to identify a genuine certified Ayurveda center.

A genuine Ayurveda center always has a registered doctor on site who will conduct a proper consultation before any treatment. They will check your pulse, ask detailed questions about your diet and sleep, and determine your dosha type. If a place offers immediate massage without consultation it is just a regular spa using Ayurveda as a marketing label.

For a truly authentic experience consider visiting Beruwala or Bentota which are famous for established Ayurveda resorts running multi day panchakarma programs. These properties have been treating European wellness tourists for decades and maintain extremely high traditional standards.

Look for the registration certificate from the Sri Lanka Ayurvedic Medical Council displayed on the wall. Authentic centers also use traditional herbal oils prepared on site rather than generic commercial products. Real treatments often include herbal steam baths, head treatments called shirodhara, and prescribed herbal drinks.
