I am moderately fit but not a serious hiker. Can I realistically complete the climb to the top of Sri Pada or is it only for experienced trekkers.

The climb involves roughly fifty five hundred steps spread across seven kilometers from the Nallathanni base. Most reasonably fit tourists complete it in three to four hours of steady climbing with regular rest breaks. The first half is gentle and gradual but the final two kilometers become extremely steep with proper staircases. Take it slow and you will absolutely make it to the top.

The descent is honestly harder on your knees than the ascent due to the steep steps. Trekking poles are extremely helpful for the way down and can be borrowed from your guesthouse. Plan a full rest day afterwards as your legs will be very sore for at least two days following the climb.

Wear proper hiking shoes with good grip as the stone steps become slippery from condensation during the cold night. Bring a small backpack with warm layers, a rain jacket, snacks, and at least two liters of water. There are tea shops along the route during pilgrimage season but prices increase dramatically near the summit.
